Sue Tait joined Anchor Group Services in 2020, initially stepping in to cover a temporary HR role. Her impact was quickly recognised, and a permanent position was created for her to lead the HR function. Drawing on her experience across the military, higher education, and commercial sectors, Sue brings a unique blend of discipline, empathy, and strategic HR leadership to her role as HR Director.
Prior to Anchor, Sue spent over a decade at the University of Exeter in an Executive Officer role, supporting college-level HR activities alongside wider operational and administrative leadership. Her responsibilities included recruitment, performance management, succession planning, and professional development for early career academics. This experience strengthened her understanding of the employee lifecycle and reinforced her commitment to people development – a philosophy she continues to apply at Anchor.
Since joining the business, Sue has led the transformation of Anchor’s HR function, introducing structure, systems, and scalable processes to support rapid growth. From employee relations and complex TUPE mobilisations to onboarding, training, and compliance, Sue works across the entire portfolio, supporting operational leaders and central teams alike. Known for her hands-on approach, she balances strategic leadership with day-to-day problem solving, ensuring people remain at the heart of the organisation.
In her younger days, Sue took up parachuting and regularly jumped from aircraft – an experience she now looks back on in disbelief, admitting she wouldn’t even consider it today.
