Through the risk assessment it was identified that several blind spots, away from the security officers station existed around the perimeter of the protected area which were easily accessible to members of the public. The client had previously experienced trespassers on the property and due to the nature of the asset in their care they were required to adopt additional measures to bolster the overall site security.
Increasing the presence of security officers on the site would have proved extremely costly, in the region of £3,000 per week per additional security officer covering on a 24/7 basis. There were additional challenges around welfare facilities on site for the officers. In reality, the additional security officers would have been unable to be permanently positioned in the locality of the blind spots.
For contractual and reputational reasons, Cammell Laird required an alternative solution to enhance the security of the asset within their care but due to a lack of power and communications infrastructure a traditional security/CCTV system was not a viable option.
Anchor proposed the use of solar powered visual verification intrusion detection systems which we were able to deploy within the tight timescales required by the client.
Within a couple of hours on site we were able to deploy, setup and configure two units on the site providing sufficient coverage of the blind spots around the perimeter.
We used a combination of two technologies on site, each best suited for the particular environment to provide the most effective solution possible. Both technologies were configured to send alerts back to Anchor’s Operation Centre (AOC) which is staffed 24/7, 365 days a year by our highly trained security operations team.
The first technology we deployed was a solar powered CCTV tower which utilizes CCTV Analytics to generate alerts back to our AOC and has the added functionality of warning strobe lights which automatically activate when the analytics detect the presence of human and/or vehicles. LED Floodlights to provide additional lighting in dimly lit areas which not only makes the analytics more effective but provided additional lighting for our security officers during their regular patrols. The CCTV towers also have an audio challenge facility, enabling the AOC to broadcast warning messages to any unauthorized persons detected on site.
The second technology we deployed was a Passive Infra-Red (PIR) visual verification detection system which was originally developed for use by the Estonian military to protect their borders in remote locations. This fully wireless, solar powered solution is highly adaptable and flexible and designed for the harshest environments. This technology was selected as the area of coverage was far closer to the security officers station and therefore we did not require many of the additional features of the CCTV Tower which does come at a higher rental cost.
We were able to provide the client with access via mobile apps to both technology solutions, giving the ability to live view the CCTV tower cameras and view alert notifications from both solutions.
