Case Study

Media City Cleaning Services

Media City and Anchor Group Services have built a strong partnership since they secured the cleaning contract back in 2019.Since being appointed, Anchor have introduced many positive changes across the Media City portfolio; ideas which have not only provided cost savings, but also delivered on shared Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) ambitions. Anchor Group Services turned their focus particularly to embedding innovation and ESG into their business and practices, which is reflected through their delivery of various innovative solutions and product switches to more sustainable alternatives, now featuring across our buildings. The service we deliver includes cleaning across the whole estate, throughout a range of corporate office buildings, Dock 10 studios and more than 30 tenant businesses across the estate.

Through the introduction of a range of sustainability initiatives we have been able to minimise our environmental impact across the estate whilst also maintaining exceptionally high cleaning standards.    Some examples of the initiatives we have introduced so far include:

  • v-Air Solid Air Fresheners – This product is completely free of any solvents, propellants, HFC’s and harmful volatile organic compounds. There are no batteries required: all that is needed is natural airflow. The refill is 100% organic and biodegradable and has helped to save around 1,700 single use batteries going to waste.
  • Q-Eco Tabs – The Q-eco tab replaces a traditional liquid cleaning product and contain fully recyclable packaging, this has resulted in us saving in excess of 2000kg of single use each year.
  • Tiboo Soap – Anchor have switched all soap dispensers across the portfolio to Tiboo foam dispensers. Since switching to this solution, we have saved 318 5 litre single use plastic bottles and 642 1L soap cartridges.

In addition to high sustainability performance, the introduction of our industry leading employee welfare and wellbeing package and transition to paying the Real Living Wage to all staff has resulted in 98% staff retention across multiple years of the contract.

The Problem

Prior to Anchor, the services being delivered at Media City were high in consumption, with a significant amount of cleaning related waste going to landfill due to chemical contamination preventing recycling.

The service being delivered was reactive to issues as they arose and in the absence of detailed cleaning schedules and there was no structured plan to ensuring the asset was event ready at all times.

The complex estate spanning over 200 acres was not benefiting from a regular schedule of audits and there was no live reporting in place to monitor performance or report potential hazards.

Significant waste to landfill as a result of cleaning chemical decontamination.
No seasonal cleaning schedules in place and no structured plan for asset presentation across 200 acre estate.
No regular schedule of audits or accountability for service delivery.

The Solution

At Media City, we have aligned our sustainability plan to the globally recognised UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): selecting the 5 where we can make the most significant impact. One of the goals we deem most important is SD12: Responsible Consumption and Production: meaning we commit to ensuring we encourage sustainable consumption and production patterns wherever possible across the estate.

Our service blends industry leading technology for enhanced accountability, proof of delivery and seamless live reporting to allow us to monitor performance standards in real time.  This solution has also allowed us to monitor seasonal variations in the requirements of cleaning service and respond to changes in footfall across the estate.

Our cleaning team benefits from a leading package of training and development which not only acknowledges their current role but also supports a development pathway for future leadership roles.  This combined with a range of wellbeing initiatives has contributed to exceptional staff retention levels.
