City Hotel is located in Derry, Northern Ireland’s second largest city. The hotel is ideally located for exploring the area’s rich heritage, with key landmarks such as the striking Guildhall, Tower Museum, and the 17th-century City Walls – all within a five-minute walk. Adjacent to the hotel is the Quayside Shopping Centre, providing convenient access to shopping and dining options. Its idyllic location and proximity to local landmarks also presented a parking challenge.

Ocean Parking’s ANPR car park management solution has enhanced the guest experience, reduced the local administration associated with managing the car park and allowed the hotel to capitalise on it’s central location.

Within 1 month of the contract being implemented, the client had benefited from a 31% increase in car park revenue and an increase of 28% in parking compliance.

Our bespoke non-guest reclaim solution also resulted in a 12% increase in food and beverage spend at the hotel.

The Problem

The hotel’s car park was experiencing misuse of its spaces due to its location in the city centre of Derry, Due to the ratio of hotel rooms to car park spaces, this resulted in a negative guest experience, namely them being unable to park, and also considerable lost income for the hotel.

The hotel had an outdated barrier system, which allowed cars to tailgate out of the car park, resulting in lost income for the hotel, The car park also used an intercom system to manage exceptions a process which was labour intensive for an already busy reception desk.

Ocean Parking proposed to introduce a solution which would:

Introduce a free flowing vehicle management system, monitored remotely 24 hours a day
Remove on site interaction with the car park system
Introduce a range of card, cash, app based and online payment methods to enhance the customer journey and reduce transaction times
Improve compliance and increase the client's income

The Solution

Ocean Parking removed the car park barriers and introduced an ANPR solution linked to payment kiosks. This bespoke solution allowed for free flowing traffic throughout the car park with flexible payment options for visitors and seamless exemptions for guests.

The removal of the barriers and intercom system reduced the front of house teams workload and allowed reception staff to focus on providing an industry leading guest experience for hotel visitors.

The strategically placed ANPR cameras, eliminated the tailgating issue and ensured that all car park users were identified and complied with the car park conditions.

To maximise revenue Ocean Parking also introduced a solution which allowed non guests to park and claim back their parking cost, subject to a minimum spend in the bar and restaurant.
